Case Study:

You just met an 8 year old girl (Maya) who is at the doctor for a routine check up. Maya just found out the doctor wants to check her blood and Maya is upset stating, “No, you can’t check my blood! I hate it, it hurts.” One caregiver is present and responding to the child by saying, “It will not hurt, just sit down so we can get this done.” Maya retreats to a corner of the room, curls up in a ball while covering her arms with her hands.
